Can't get external monitor to work on Asus laptop

Postby gatorade on Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:57 pm

I've got an Asus N82JQ laptop that I was trying to hook up to an external monitor but I can't get it to work. When I connect the monitor and turn it on it just says no signal.
I've tried it using the VGA cable , I've also tried it with the HDMI but it says the same.
i looked in the control panel and tried clicking on the detect monitors button but it does nothing.

does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get it to work?
How can I determine if its a driver vs hardware issue?

Hi, do a check in your laptop bios to see if your extra video ports are enabled by default. Otherwise I cant think what it might be.

Have you tried using the display toggle switch on the laptop to toggle the output? If that doesn't work try connecting the external monitor before you boot.

yes, I've tried that. I also tried connecting the external monitor before booting and it still doesn't connect.

I got a suggestion from a guy on another forum to try toggling while in BIOS , and that actually worked. He said I need to install a different driver. I don't know which one to use , though.
