Desktop Freezes

Postby trancicted on Wed Apr 11, 2012 7:58 am

Hi,
I left Windows 7 For Linux Mint 12 2 weeks ago and I think about returning to W7.
Each day, I probably get about 2 freezes. The top and ground bar responds but won't do anything.
Open apps don't respond and the only thing I can do is Ctrl+Alt+Backspace but this means that unsaved work is lost and that I have to start everything all over again.

It's not with only 1 app, it's with all of them and I can't see any logic in the freezing time.
And also, after last night, my cursos starts to autoclick.
If I move it, it first shows white, then fades into blue and then black.
This is pure rubbish!

Have you transitioned to the Cinnamon desktop yet? If not, I recommend to.

The original installation provides gnome3 gnome-shell with mint-gnome-shell-extensions (mgse). There were some issues with the media player extension freezing the desktop so you can try disabling that through Advanced Settings -> Shell Extensions. See if that disables the freezing.

I also edited your title to be more informative of the problem at hand.

I've disabled it, thx, I'll let you know if it works.
Do you know how I can remove that autoclicking?

I'm not sure what you mean by "autoclicking", can you describe the problem behaviour?

When I move the cursor, it goes from black to white, when I hold it on the same place, it fades from white to blue, clicks and turns into black.
It's pretty annoying..

Never heard of anything like that before. Is this system-wide or with certain applications?

the autoclick itself is system-wide, but the cursor sometimes remains the same but it keeps clicking

I'll explain it once more.
When I move the cursor with (my mouse) and hold it still for about 2 or 3 seconds, the cursor fades into a blue color and clicks like you would do on the left mouse button in every program, even the desktop.
