Laptop 'USB' headphone jack not working?

Postby GigawareNerd on Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:24 am

I piece of an old speaker jack in broke off inside of my headphone jack, i was able to remove it but the hole is pretty destroyed. I don't mind that i can't use my speakers, i prefer my headphones anyway, so i purchased an external USB headphone and mic jack in. My older brother thought that the computer thought the internal mic jack was occupied, but for some reason was playing it out the internal speakers. I've come to the conclusion that its not, because under sound preferenecs, when the output is is on anolog speakers, it plays out of the speakers, if i select anolog headphones or output, nothing happens. How would i get my external headphone jack to work? Would i have to write some kind of driver for it? If so how would i go about doing this? i have no idea what to do  please help.
The part i purchased is made by 3D Sound, it was a generic kindove thing, but here is the link to where i bought it from, if it helps any

I have the same issue with mine, Its strange how it still reads it and on the sound test i can hear the sounds through it but whenever i play something else it does not work. It also works in Windows perfectly.
