How can I change color depth in Mint 12 LXDE ?

Post by Fixxxer »

Hello and thank you for your great effort on Mint 12

I need to change my monitor's color depth from 24bit to 16bit on LXDE, but I dont know how.
Here is what I could find:

I do not have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to edit in order to tell the system to use 16bit. If I try to " gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf", I get an empty text file.

At least one check had to be skipped:
 Error: vesa driver in use
So I guess this means I use the vesa driver and not Ati. How can I change this?
Thank you for your time :)

I don't know if this would help -

You may have already seen this wiki at Ubuntu:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config

Someone here using Lubuntu Natty, aka Mint 11 LXDE:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... ostcount=6

ie.

Code: Select all

gksudo leafpad /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/xorg.conf
paste into created blank file
Screenshot .png
save file
reboot

I can't vouch for it .... try at your own risk
