Komodo Edit - Not in the "Open With" menu

Postby liam1412 on Sat Apr 14, 2012 9:15 am

Hi All

I'm new here and am practically new to Linux. As a web developer, I decided it was time to lose my reliance on Windows and have for the time being installed Dual Boot Win7/Linux Mint.

I am afraid I will be bugging you all a lot till I get to grips as apart from some simple commands on a Web Hosting server I really have done nothing.

Any How here is question number 1

I have installed Komodo Edit 7 manually as it isn't available in the apt-get repository. I want to be able to right click files and "open with" Komodo Edit for PHP/CSS/Javascript/HTML/XML files and whatever else I may use in the course of my work. I have searched google and found solutions that involve creating a .desktop file but I just can't get it to appear in the list of programs that I can open with. Any help on this would be much appreciated. I can give back in terms of development help etc.

Many Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Just to update

Komodo Editor places the .desktop file on the desktop. So I did

Code: Select all
sudo cp /home/liam/Desktop/komodo-edit-7.desktop /usr/share/applications/komodo-edit-7.desktop

to copy it to the correct folder and it is now available in the "Open With" menu
