New Working wifi driver for Fujitsu Li1718 Laptop -AR500EG

Post by roadrash »

At last there is a working solution to the Atheros AR5007EG Wireless chipset.

This chipset has been used in some Toshiba & Fujitsu Laptops like the Amilo LI1718 & probably a lot of others as well.

Before you install the drivers I would suggest downloading any updates first.

To install the drivers download the install script at the link below to your home folder:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roadrash/l ... sca16xx.sh

1. Now open a shell

2. type: chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh

3. type: sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

Thats it everything is automated and you just have to wait for it to finish.
When it has finished you will need to reboot to activate everything.
In the Mint KDE version click the Knetwork manager then select the network you wish to connect to and enter ant security details. These will then be stored in KDE wallet.
I'm not to sure what you do in Gnome or XFCE desktops but the drivers will work on both.
This script was primarily written for the Fujitsu Amilo Li1718 Laptop but should work on any other that uses the Atheros AR5007EG WiFI chipset.

This script will work on all versions of MINT (Cassandra, Celina & Daryna)

The new forum behaves a bit strange. I made the post in your link sticky, but could not find it so I made this one sticky too

This is also an older version of the MadWifi driver; a newer one was released in August.

Directions that work in Elyssa can be found here:

I hope to be working on getting wifi working on the final release of Mint 5 KDE edition very soon but in the meantime you can try some of these other links for information on getting the Atheros AR5007 wifi chipset working in Linux mint.

OK I have now updated the WiFi install script and it should now work with all versions of Mint from Daryna to Elyssa & Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy to 8.04.1 Hardy there is also no reason why it shouldn't work with the many other other Ubuntu derivatives like Kubuntu & gOS.
I have only tested this with both the KDE & Gnome version of Mint but not the XFCE version. The KDE version is easier to setup than the Gnome version with which you may need to install wi-radar to display a list of wireless access points and other things to deal with security. KDE has all these integrated.
Please test this and inform me of any problems.

Before you do anything its important you open System menu/Hardware and de-select the Atheros hardware layer & Atheros 802.11 Lan. Now install any updates that are showing available available.

To install the drivers download the install script at the link below to your home folder:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roadrash/l ... sca16xx.sh

1. Now open a shell

2. type: chmod 755 fsca16xx.sh

3. type: sudo ./fsca16xx.sh setup

4. If everything went fine and there were no errors at the end of the install move to the next step. if you did receive errors at the end of the install do the following: type sudo ./fsca16xx remove then apt-get update then
install again using sudo ./fsca16xx.sh

5. type: sudo modprobe ath_pci

6. type: sudo modprobe wlan_scan_sta

7. type: sudo chmod 777 /etc/modules

8. type: echo ath_pci >> /etc/modules/

now reboot to activate wireless. The wireless will now be actiavted at every startup.
