black screen at boot

Hello,

yesterday I got a HP Pavilion g7 with AMD A6-3420M and downloaded the standard Lisa-DVD. Tried to boot but after OS switches from text mode to graphics mode the screen remains black as the night. No cursor, nothing freezes and after a while of booting a sound appears, so sound drivers are working well. Tried a different BIOS setting, but screen remains black. What could the problem be?

Hold shift after BIOS post, select edit boot option:
add line after "quite splash"
First, try add line "acpi=off" , after that try booting normally.
If not work try add line "nomodeset"

didn't work. "nomodeset" or "radeon.modeset=0" don't start the graphical surface. When typing "startx" at promt there appears a message, that connection to x-server is refused.

Tried a CD with Ubuntu 10.10 and it runs fine on this machine. So the trouble seems to be specially mint-12. How could I read the boot parameters of ubuntu?

o.k. parameters for booting ubuntu are just the same.
Somewhere I read that Mint 12 lacks of some proprietary drivers which are included in 11. Maybe I should try this version first...

the CD of Mint 11 works fine!

Interesting. Sounds like the same problem I was asking about here. I'll try 11 then, though I'm not impressed that an older version is more compatible than the newest...
