The function NAT (including port forwarding) is typically made by a router. So, consider if you have to open your ports in your residential router.

If the firewall of Mint is not enabled, you must not open any port (on your Mint system). What services and ports are you trying to use?.

Are you able to connect to the ssh server from the computers of your LAN?.

Code: Select all
ssh userxxx@sshserver

If you wish to allow the connections to your ssh server from the Internet, you should open the port 22 on your router. A dynamic DNS service could also help.

The SSH server is not installed by default. If you are trying to connect to your Mint system from another system you will need to install the package openssh-server with no need to open ports on the o/s itself, just in your router/firewall..
The instructions suggested Microsoft Vista or better, so I installed Linux.

is port forwarding available on your system, check status..

In terms of forwarding ports, exactly what have you done?
