Failed to load session "cinnamon" - LMDE

Hi there,

I just installed linux mint debian edition 201204, 32 bit.

I get the error .. Failed to load session "cinnamon" ... right after log in. I'm able to log in with MATE but not with cinnamon.

I'm pretty much new to Linux, The look of cinnamon seems to have won me over but I am unable to log in with it.

Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks in advance.

I'm running it in a virtualbox if that makes any difference with Win7 as my main OS.

Linux Mint 12 comes with the Virtualbox guest additions pre-installed, so it's possible to run the live session with Gnome Shell and MGSE.

Make sure to configure your virtual machine as follows:

Go to Machine->Settings->Display
Give the virtual machine as much Memory Video as possible.
Tick the checkbox "Enable 3D Acceleration"

Without 3D acceleration your virtual session will run in Fallback mode. If your settings are correct it will run with Gnome Shell and MGSE.

Thanks a lot for that. I did exactly as you said and I still get the error ... Failed to load session "cinnamon"

I'm not running a live session though. I've gone through the installation process and installed in properly.

I've also tried running it from a live CD and giving it as much video memory as possible. Both times I get the same error. Search all over the internet and still haven't found much.

I am running this is in a virtual machine and I have enabled 3d acceleration enabled and increased my video memory as well. I am not running from a LiveCD, I've gone through the installer and installed it properly.

Looks like something's wrong with 3D support in your virtual machine (btw, is that VirtualBox, VMWare or something else?) - maybe this
will clarify the situation...

I am using VirtualBox, The one from Oracle if that helps.

Don't worry. Installed it as a dual boot and it works fine. Thanks for the help though.

Just need to learn how to enable both wireless and wired networks. Can't get any internet activity. Shouldn't be too hard i hope!
