mint 12 cinnamon missing volume icon?

under cinnamon settings > applets : i have the Sound applet checked. however, there is no sound/volume icon in the task panel.

Make sure that you are running Cinnamon 1.4, i.e. all updates are installed.

thanks for the reply! synaptic says i am running cinnamon 1.4 and update manager says all my packages are up to date so i don't think that is it. all the other applets i have running (forcequit, snapshot and network manager) all have icons.

I have the same problem on LMDe. Also the applets for keyboard and display do not show up.

I thought it was the same for me with the sound applet. then I discover I can't see it only when Banshee was running. The sound settings were actually available as a sub menu of the "Banshee applet" (The notification place). When I close Banshee, then the sound icon appears again.

Nono, in my case the icon never showed up. Also Display and Keyboard applets don't work.

The Keyboard applet doesn't work in the Mint 12 Gnome edition either (not showing up in my panel anyway) but the sound applet does (volume icon visible at all times, turns into a music icon when a music player is launched), something must have gone wrong setting Cinnamon up for Debian.

After a fresh install the icon was there. I removed Pulseaudio and it disappeared. Is there a way to get a sound applet and volume key support without pulseaudio? In xfce that is no problem at all.

I know this thread is a bit old but its the only thread I could find,
I too lost my applet everything was going great , I did not mind not seeing the icon as I could get sound any way. but then went to make a skype call with vid only to find the mic did not work, on looking in the settings, there appears to be NO hard ware installed, they where there last week as I had to change a setting in there from stereo to surround, but now there are NO settings available and according to the settings NO sound installed. but still get sound out of the speakers.
Any suggestions please would be grateful...thanks in advance.
