UMTS modem stopped working

Postby expatMT on Fri Apr 13, 2012 5:34 am

I have a Qualcomm modem installed in a HP ProBook 5320m laptop. NetworkManager picks up the device and I can use the wizard to create a connection to my service provider (Vodafone Malta). Re-loading the qcserial module shows the following log entries:

Code: Select all
Apr 13 11:21:08 expat-lt kernel: [36693.441505] USB Serial support registered for Qualcomm USB modem
Apr 13 11:21:08 expat-lt kernel: [36693.442749] qcserial 1-1.2:1.1: Qualcomm USB modem converter detected

Apr 13 11:21:08 expat-lt kernel: [36693.446503] usbcore: registered new interface driver qcserial

However, when attempting to activate the connection, I see the following in syslog:

Code: Select all

Is there any way I can get more detailed information from the process to identify where this is failing?

We could look at the output of:
Code: Select all
uname -a
inxi -Nxc 0
lsusb
dmesg | grep -Ei 'firm|gobi|error|fail'
usb-devices
lsmod
My Linux history: Ubuntu 10.04 - 10.10 - LMDE 201109 - UP4 My sources.list/preferences

Computers is not science. And it's not magic - it's something in between.

[  493.156637] usb 1-1.2: device firmware changed

Compared with your previous output from syslog:
Code: Select all
Apr 13 11:21:08 expat-lt kernel: [36693.442960] usb 1-1.2: Qualcomm USB modem converter now attached to ttyUSB0

You might need to update the module. This could mean that you have to compile the drivers.
Code: Select all
[63345.909177] ICMPv6 checksum failed [2XXX:XXX:0000:0021:0000:0000:0200:0001 > 2XXX:XXX:ffff:0081:6ab5:99ff:fee7:0721]

I've read this only happened in old kernels. But the amount of these messages tells me that you maybe should deactive IPv6.

Computers is not science. And it's not magic - it's something in between.
