What desktop environment do you use? MATE?

Don't know if this helps but you could also manually (re)move the "not empty" tasks folder.

Yes I am using mate. I manually (re)moved the "not empty" tasks folder. and am getting the following :

I thought you had MATE because of the Gnome errors. In many files the word "gnome" is just interchanged with "mate" but many programs can't work with that.
Is evolution working in Gnome3 or Cinnamon?

Try this for theme problems: viewtopic.php?p=564900#p564900

If nothing helps try:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall evolution evolution-common

Just realized there is no .evolution file in my home directory. I tried to create one and after I ran evolution and it crashed the folder .evolution was gone.

This error didn't show up before you deleted the tasks folder, right? Maybe you could move it back? (I hope you just moved it.)

Obviously there's something wrong with your Configuration (gconf). Maybe you could look where evolution is mentioned ...
Code: Select all
mateconf-editor

And while you're at it please
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgconf2.0-cil libgconf2-4 libgconf-2-4 libgconfmm-2.6-1c2

I no longer have a \home\chris\.evoltion folder it has vanished the tasks folder is also gone it was empty when I deleted it.

There are no entries for evolution in mateconf-editor

re-i nstalling libgconf2.0-cil libgconf2-4 libgconf-2-4 libgconfmm-2.6-1c2 did not work. I am at a loss it is all over my head now

It's stored here now:
Code: Select all
~/.local/share/evolution/

There are no entries for evolution in mateconf-editor

I installed Evolution (evolution evolution-common evolution-webcal). And it really doesn't write much in the configuration.
I also get a keyring error. It doesn't seem to save the password for next session.
But that doesn't hinders E to get my mails. Be sure you have mate-keyring and gnome-keyring installed. EDIT: OR NOT --> See three posts down!

re-installed mate keyring and I am getting t he keyring errpr message again'

I have found out that I am able to send messages, however the crash occurs when it starts to download the messsgaes.

I also get every keyring error you gave (unable to find, create, secret service). So that shouldn't be the problem.

I have found out that I am able to send messages, however the crash occurs when it starts to download the messsgaes.

You could install debugging tools for Evolution. Look here:
Code: Select all
apt-cache search evolution debug

Thanks for this thread it helped me locate my problem.

gnome-keyring and mate-keyring seem to collide. For me, running gnome shell, I needed to remove the mate-keyring package (in fact I removed all the mate packages) and everything started working again. Maybe you need to remove the gnome-keyring package (though this is also likely to mess with Cinnamon, I would think).

My problems started when one of the meta packages brought in some mate dependencies.

Check to see if mate-keyring and gnome-keyring are running.

It should be possible for mate and Gnome Shell/Cinnamon to coexist by modding the /etc/xdg/autostart but I didn't get this far because the package removal worked for me.

I have had a similar problem at porting my emails from evolution version 2 to version 3. Hint: Do a backup of your email archives, uninstall evolution (apt-get remove), delete all evolution folders at your home directory (also hidden and sub-directories), reinstall evolution (apt-get install) and try to setup your account manually (without archives). If you manage this and evolution will not crash, then you could try to re-integrate your archives. This steps did have solved my problem.
