how do I connect to wireless?

Postby charhm on Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:20 pm

I know this question may seem really stupid but I don't know hot to connect to wifi on Linux Mint?
I'm sure it's blatantly obvious and the way to connect is right in front if me but for the life of me I can't work it out. When I click on the network icon in the bottom right it just says Wired Network - disconnected.

Please help me.

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

You might not have the needed drivers. When you click the network icon it should show the wireless networks as well. Is there a hard switch on the computer to turn wireless on and off? What do you have for a wireless card?

Cheers for that. I do but it doesn't do anything when I press it. My wireless card is Broadcom 802.11n network adapter. I looked for drivers but because I am new to Linux I really wasn't to sure which ones to look for.

Sorry its LMDE I'm using guessing that probably changes things...

Anyhow, I went into the software manager thing and downloaded all the broadcom packages they had enabled, still no luck. Would love to get this problem resolved. Also, to use a wired connection I must boot up LMDE with the etherent cable connected, can't get a connection once I'm logged on.

Any help would be great, thanks.
