I am having trouble rebooting my system. I was upgrading my Linux Mint Xfce to service pack 4, when I ran out of disk space on my root partition, leaving me with an incomplete install. I have access to the desktop and applications, but I cannot shutdown to boot from an ISO DVD to resize my partition and free up disk space. Any attempt to reboot results in a logout. When I attempt a full shutdown from the command line, I get this error:
- Code: Select all
sudo shutdown now

The system is going down to maintenance mode NOW!
shutdown: timeout opening/writing control channel /run/initctl
init: timeout opening/writing control channel /run/initctl
I'm not sure what packages are affected to cause this error, or what I may have to reinstall. Any ideas on how to solve this??
