[SOLVED] just installed netbeans, can't findn executable

Hi all. I am using LM12.

I've downloaded and installed the installer from the netbeans site: http://netbeans.org/index.html

Now I would like to run netbeans, but I can't find the executable. I type "whereis netbeans", and get "netbeans: ". I type "which netbeans" and it just goes back to the command prompt.

How can I start netbeans? It wasn't installed via software manager, so it's starter is not in the menu.

Even if you didn't install from the software manager it should(applications I have installed from source or .deb have shown in Mint Menu) still. If it doesn't show and netbeans is installed you should be able to start it with the name of the package via terminal. In this case I think it would be "netbeans".

Which file did you download?

I downloaded this one: http://netbeans.org/downloads/start.htm ... option=cpp

I typed "netbeans" in an xterm and get "netbeans: command not found". "netbeans7.1.1" gets the same result.

Did you look at this [url=http://netbeans.org/community/releases/71/install.html[/url]? The page you gave me has a link to it.

From a really quick glance at the page I just gave you I see two things that are probably causing you issues.

A. You need jdk6u26(java development kit 6 update 26)

B. You have to make what you downloaded executable using chmod.

I have successfully installed netbeans. it's not a dependency issue. I have followed the instructions, including using chmod

Ok, I asked in the mint irc channel, and have been advised to look in usr/local. The executable is there, and I am running netbeans.

I think you might be right. When I logged out and back in, netbeans was in the menu, but it was not in the menu after I had installed it.
