No Longer Getting Notifications

I have both Turpial and Empathy running and both are supposed to be using the default notifications from Linux Mint and Cinnamon 1.4. It had been working but in the last 2 days I no longer get popup notifications for either program. As far as I know I have not uninstalled anything that would have effected notifications. Hopefully I can get these back as both are very important communication tools for me.
