[Solved] No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

[Solved] No icons in Gnome 3 "dash."

Postby Steerpike on Sat Apr 21, 2012 7:40 pm

I have Linux Mint 12 64-bit installed. I used gnome-tweak-tool user theme extension to load a theme I like, however all of the application icons disappear from dash. I can still get into it, the Windows sections still works, and the icons in the panel on the left are still there. Changing back to the Mint-Z shell theme makes the icons return, so it's not a huge deal, but I figure there is a setting somewhere that is causing them no to show up with the theme I want. Any ideas?

Yes, it is both Gnome 3.2 and 3.4 compatible. Worked great in Fedora 17.

yeahh but fedoda17 is using g-s3.4 while mint12 is using g-s3.2. are you sure you loaded the correct (the 3.2) version in gnome-tweak-tool?

There was only one version to download. According to the site, the theme is compatible with both 3.2 and 3.4. Maybe it doesn't work well with 3.2 after all, I don't know. It looked like some people were using it with 3.2, but at least one user appears to have had the same issue (didn't say what distro they are using). I'll mess around with it a bit, but if it doesn't work there are other themes I like. This one shrinks the top bar a little and makes everything else look reasonable (instead of over-sized), so that is what I liked. I could always go edit the css for a theme that works.

the theme is compatible with both 3.2 and 3.4
in my experience that is not possible.
if you go to dA (this link should take to half-left page: you see there several g-s3.2/3.4 compatible and at least the ones i tried have 2 folders)

Zerozero - you are absolutely right. The zip file that holds the theme has two folders. I extracted them, then zipped up the 3.2 folder by itself and loaded that with Gnome-Tweak-Tool. Problem solved. Thank you!
