Can't transplant OpenOffice config file in Mint 9 USB

Greetings!

I was advised on Ubuntu and Mint PPC forums to try your Linux Mint "How to open files as root via a right click" lesson combined with the "as Administer" click mode to remedy this problem but it doesn't seem to work.

I installed Linux Mint 9 on USB drives to upgrade our home school's older machines with dying hard drives and it works well. The only thing is we use OpenOffice on old Windows and Macs whose OOo Writer program's color menu has several dozen student-customized RGB settings that will take days of hassles to set-up again on Mint's OpenOffice because we can't directly transplant config files. It was relatively straightforward transferring our Macs' OpenOffices' standard.soc file (containing color settings) to our Windows machines by just plucking it out of /usr/lib/openoffice/basis3.2/presets/config and transplanting it the same location in the Windows version, but Mint 9 USB seems to read-only lock you out of doing that. Others say the trick is getting root access to the system to undo read-only to replace standard.soc or cut-and-paste its configs, but I'm getting conflicting recommendations.

Have you any suggestions that might work here? We would be most grateful!
