I can play video only from terminal

Postby gebaale on Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:51 am

Hi,

I'm using "Katya" on my Dell XPS 15z.

I can't play video double-clicking in them or selecting a player with my mouse, but only invoking from terminal. It's not a main problem but it's very annoying.

Thank you

This is very awkward problem. Can you give more info on what exactly do you type in terminal and how do you play from GUI? Did you try opening the player first and doing a file->open from there? Or dragging the movie file into the player window? What player and what movie type are you using? Maybe your player needs some tweaking...

In terminal I type the name of the player ( in particular I use gnome-mplayer and vlc ) and the name of the file I want to play, that in general are .avi files.

I can't open any player even from the menu, but only from terminal. When a player runs, I can open the .avi files doing file->open file.

Can be this problem related to smplayer? I installed it and it was the only player that didn't have this problem. Now I removed it, but nothing changes.

Problem Solved:

it was related to bumblebee: I don't know why, but the command in the launcher for vlc and gnome-mplayer began with optirun -f and it didn't work. I removed the command optirun and it works perfectly.
