Problems with Cinnamon

Postby RytronII on Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:26 am

Hi.

I have LM12 installed in Vbox. These are some issues I have with Cinnamon:

1. Cant change panel icon sizes.
2. Get it to remember open programs upon reboot.
3. No bootup logo - could I at least have text or some way of showing the system is loading up.
4. Stop LM12 from auto logging in.

Search for a theme with icons the size you like, there are lots themes here: http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes

Not a Cinnamon problem. That behaviour was removed from Ubuntu (the distro that Mint is based upon) since Natty. Use hibernate instead.

Not a Cinnamon problem: "In Linux Mint 12 the boot splash screen is completely black. It doesn't show a logo with green dots as it used to. This is by design."

Not a Cinnamon problem. If you don't want autologin edit /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and remove any line containing the expression "autologin-user".

Hi esteban1uy.

Thank you that very informative reply. Cheers.

Why did they ditch the bootup green dots? It seems odd without them.

My boot-up times are really big so this is a bit annoying. :/

I see the auto login by default as a major security issue.

I'm new at Mint, used Ubuntu previously in addition to Mac and PC over the years. if you are going to base launching and access to everything on your panel then readability is essential. To me Cinnaon is the most usable dist of Ubuntu/Mint distributions I've found, except that the panel is barely readable (I'm an old guy).

While everything else seems adjustable this is remarkably fixed and cramped. Hopefully in 13 this will be approached, (It would be great to be able to scale it to the size desired)

I'm amazed at the high quality work and terrific progress on this distribution. Many thanks.
