LMDE HPLIP can't print....

Postby toomuchcoffee on Tue Apr 24, 2012 1:37 pm

Hey hoy!

I cant print with LMDE 64 (Mate/Cinnamon, using the later DE).
My printer is detected but when I try to print a test sheet I get an error saying that the printer is out of paper...
I checked in Synaptic and apparently I had an outdated HPLIP installed.

Removed HPLIP, went here for the latest version (3.12.4) and chose latest Debian as my OS.
Install failed because it detected Linux Mint (duh) but under mint I only see the option for 11 or 12 (ubuntu based), not for the Debian Edition.

I don't even know if installing this will fix my problem. I believe so because the website says:
Linux Mint 12 supplies HPLIP 3.10.4 and it does not support your printer.
although I was able to use it when I had Ubuntu 11.04.

Any help would be much appreciated :) .

p.s. the printer does have paper...

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

True, but I would still try another version, and it seems that Mint 12 or 11 would be a possible selection

After all, LMDE while based on Debian (just like Ubuntu is based on/derived from Debian), is different enough that it may need its own version
Their Lib versions or fixes ? that are added or different locations for some initialization/setup scripts..
--or even Ubuntu's service method instead of RC scripts

If I didn't use that method, I would compile from source, just make sure to have kernel sources and kernel headers for the kernel that is installed, or possibly use build-essentia available from Ubuntu/mint ?

Mint's user methods, installing latest HPLIP..

Meanwhile I tried the Mint12 download and it gave me an error too. Also I'm afraid i'm not very experienced in the ways of Linux....
Checked for a manual install but after checking in Synaptic there are missing dependencies...

Not sure what to do next but thank you for your reply.
