How Do I restore the lower bar on KDE screen (CLOSED)

Postby Meteor on Tue Apr 24, 2012 10:02 pm

Odd. Somehow I lost the setup on the lower icon bar of the KDE screen. What I have now is the LM Icon (it works), the show the desktop icon (never use it), Dolphin (works) immediately followed by a check mark (System up-to-date), volume icon, networking interface icon and a triangle that says "Show hidden icons, followed by a long blank space then the clock and calendar just to the right of centre of my screen. these were all at the right hand side of the screen until now...

The little triangle lists AkondiTray, Battery Monitor (KDE installed on a notebook), Bluetooth (don't have any blue teeth that I know of... :) , Message Indicator (no messages), Notifications (none) and Printer Applet (printer works fine).

The programmes that are running (like Firefox now) are not shown nor are any other other programmes such as Thunderbird, Writer, whatever. I have no idea how or why this icon bar (don't recall it's name) changed. How do I get it back to the standard/normal setup so I can see and click on open programmes, documents, etc?

KDE is 4.8 and it's been running fine until now...

This is most frustrating and surprising.

Meteor :(

EDIT: It's nice that 27 Minters have read this message since I posted it but none have offered a suggestion as to how I can get the original setup of the task bar (or whatever name it has). It seems that this is not repairable and means that I would need to reinstall KDE.

I'm currently reviewing LMDE Cinnamon on the LiveDVD and I like much better than KDE. I guess I've alway been a Gnome based user rather than KDE. I also have the XFCE version of LMDE on another LiveDVD. It's nice but no sound...

I'm considering this message is "closed", not "solved". I'll be installing LMDE Cinnamon on my hard drive replacing KDE and Lisa Mate-Cinnamon (12).

Thanks to all who read my query. I hope whatever happened to my install of KDE doesn't happen to you.
