BOINC is idled all the time since Update4

Postby FDF on Wed Apr 25, 2012 5:24 am

Hi,

I am using LMDE 64 on amd CPU, and have done the April update…
Since Boinc is always idled as the computer is always considered as used… However, the computer goes to suspend normally when not used for long…

Does anybody have an idea of which parameter to update?
The calculation setup is on anytime, after computer unused for one minute…
Boinc manager is giving no error feedback
The computer has been restarted several times since the update, but the situation is still the same…

Thanks for your help

Moved here by moderator. Reason: LMDE.

Had the same problem with LMDE Xfce 64.

As I understand it, Update 4 updates the Boinc manager version and it now seems to now takes the setting instructions from the website whereas the old version took it's settings from the local .cfg file.

I went to my account on the Boinc project I am running website and made all the relevant settings and saved.

On Boinc Manager - Opened, 'View', 'Advanced View', Project, and clicked on the Update button and it downloaded the settings and started working.

I have another installation of LMDE Xfce 64 with Boinc which refuses to allow a project to be installed. I have completely uninstalled it a few times before realising that Synaptic Complete Uninstall doesn't actually fully uninstall it and leaves some settings behind. When I have time I must fully delete all traces of it, re-install and then hopefully it will run. One thing I have noticed is that the same Boinc project, on the same hardware, with the same settings produces far better results on Ubuntu 12.04 than with LMDE Xfce.
CPU = U9300, 4GB RAM, Intel GM45 Graphics @ resolution 1366x768, 128GB internal drive, 6TB external storage, Main OS = LMDE Xfce 64bit UP4. 2nd OS = LMDE Xfce 64bit UP4, Other installed OSs = Bodhi 1.4.0, Ubuntu 10.04 & 12.04, Mandriva & Windows.

I have uninstalled, purge, reinstall, but now Boinc Manager can't connect to boinc Client… so I can't update the projects…

Not so easy

I will try to find further

My BOINC Manager also couldn't connect until I started it through: /usr/share/doc/boinc-manager/examples/run-boincmgr

I lost my BOINC partition (Windows - don't ask) and had some problems getting my configuration back.
Are you sure the client is running? In terminal: service boinc-client status
Also make sure that the content of /etc/default/boinc-client is correct.

Actually no,

I guess not as the error message is: The client stop 3 times within 2 minutes for an unknown reason…

In Event Log? Well, at least it is connecting. So there might a whole other problem.
You could try a reinstall. Make a backup of your tasks in /var/lib/boinc-client
Although I believe the removing process should ask if you want to keep that.

EDIT: You might have to edit your /etc/init.d/boinc-client that following lines look like this:
Code: Select all
# Default-Start:     1 2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop:      0 6
