Postby spix on Wed Apr 25, 2012 2:39 pm

Hello everyone,

I tried with two wireless card, same problem. I tried to connect to my neighbor router, all is working.

Do you have a clue please?

I have a very similar problem too and I am interested in how you resolve this issue.

If I figure this out I will personally monitor this forum and attempt to respond first to any new download question with the answer.

Nobody can help me ?

it's look like to be an "common" issue, i tried to follow different forum thread to fix it but nothing is working.

Could the problem come from my router? It is weird i can get internet on other router than mine.

Ethernet is working as well.

Thanks.

I get ethernet service on my brother's wired connection too. It would seem to me that this is a router issue too, but there is still a chance that this has can be a bug in the os that has yet to be properly identified.

I personally have another laptop with Win7 and can get wifi. So I am not desperate to fix this problem. I can continue to invest time in finding a solution to this problem.

Eventually a solution will be found but due to the open source nature of linux, it may take more time.

I hope you have the ability to keep searching for this bug. I am on the same boat as you.

I believe that the worst thing that could happen is that it all of a sudden works without anyone knowing why it was having problems in the first place.

It may not be an accurate solution to the problem but I am considering installing another version of linux mint (maybe with a different desktop) and seeing what happens.

Also, I want to share is that I personally don't have a wired connection or router readily available in my home. I eventually will.

But having those is an advantage because you can experiment with different distros to see if you can locate the bug.

And remember, the bug may turn out to be really simple once found so keep that in mind when things get frustrating.

I have the same problem. This week I installed Mint 12, the system connects wireless, gets an IP-address, but I have no internet the first days. Yesterdat while changing some network settings (did not write it down, but settings are now back to those after installation) I got internet connexion, and instelled several system updates.
After restarting today, same problem: wifi connected, no internet.

All other systems (non-linux) can connect fine.

Anyone any suggestion?

I don't know the solution to the problem...yet. but I will tell you this.

My laptop is a has Lisa LM w/KDE and it wired internet worked fine at my brother's house.

I haven't been able to use wifi with this computer even when it had winxp.

With LM, the network manager can locate networks in the area. I can scan for networks and add them.

However when I open firefox browser the browser can't load a webpage.

Also the network manager always lists any network that I add as "never" been used.

I followed shell commands such as...

Mintwifi
Lspci
Lsmod

And several others and other members on this forum believe their should be no problem.

But instead of dwelling on the wifi issue...

I decided to experiment with other LM distros and then check to see if the wifi works.

That is my current status.

Every problem has a solution. We just need to find it.

Maybe you can try disable IPv6. Open network connection, on wireless tab select Ipv6, set to ignored. Restart network manager with enable/disable networking.

Can you log into your router?
I had the same issue sometimes. I could access my local network, but couldn't access the public network.
After emailing the router's manufacture, it told me to disable 11n and use 11g mode instead.
The situation hasn't happened so far.

If you are using Network Manager which comes as default with Mint 12 try wicd instead. It was the only way I could get on the net despite Network Manager saying it was connected.

Hi all,
thanks so far.
@mank_in: this helped, but only for one day ...
@xox101: how can i install wicd without an internet connection?
@jimzhong: this might help, but since there are some 10 other wifi-users (without problems) I prefer not the mess around with those settings.

I found a older ubuntu 10 lite on USB. To my surprise wifi works well. When starting up Ubuntu 12.04 from CD I run into the same problems as with Mint 12.
Proving it is a Network Manager problem?
