Firefox : missing parts of page and not working forms

Hi,

Here is what shows Firefox :

And more, I cannot type anything (or maybe it's not visible ?) in the search field of Google's page and forms on others pages...

This is on a fresh install of Linux Mint 12, where I did very few things :
- Update with Mint Update (who first updated himself, then 300+ packages). I updated all, adding the packages disabled by default and numbered 4 and 5.
- Install packages present on the previous installed version (Isadora) through Mint Backup Tool (sorry if the name is not exact : the french name is "Outil de sauvegarde")
- Installed French Language Support

All was re-formated, including the home partition and the saved content of Isadora's home is not yet restored.

Curiously, midori works very well (vhen it uses also gecko engine, if I'm right ?). As I saw in this thread, I tried to re-start Firefox with a new profile and disabling extentions (the default installed ones + French support, I didn't installed more), but it's still the same.

I have others installs of Lisa, and never met this problem. I'm worrying if it could be some incompatibility with some package that was on Isadora ? But how could I know which one ?

Sounds possible, you shouldn't use backup to restore software, especially to a different version of the OS, only to restore data. You could try purging and re-installing firefox and it's dependencies?

Thanks for your reply !

I think that I wasn't clear enough : no, I didn't used backup to restore software, I used the Mint Backup tool to save the list of installed packages, and the same tool to re-install them.

And I forgot to mention that the system was re-installed without restoring anything because we encountered this problem already with Isadora. As there were also some other problems, we decided to make a fresh and clean install of Lisa.

But now, I'm confused : I just got a computer that had some RAM problems. After changing the RAM, I saw that this one has exactly the same problem displaying Google and Mint Forums !!! It was also installed last week. A totally fresh install : it had only Windows before...

I have the same version of Firefox (11.0, "Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint / mint 1.0") on my computer under Isadora, and have no problem.

We already tried, when we encountered the problem under Isadora, to totally uninstall firefox (includind the config) and re-install it, but this did'nt change anything. Must I retry now, when it's already a fresh install ? I will, but I don't believe that it will solve this problem...

Both the graphics cards in those machines are fairly long in the tooth to run gnome 3 which has higher graphics requirements then gnome 2. You might try running in gnome fallback mode or use MATE, which you might need to install). You select these desktops using the cog wheel at the login screen.

These 2 computers (and all others I installed with Mint Lisa) are using Mate : I hate gnome 3 !

I don't think that it could be a hardware problem, as :
- On one computer, we already had the problem with Isadora, but only recently
- On the 2, only firefox has problems. Other softwares are all running well.

I tried to update, and got firefox 12. But this didn't change anything (if I can say... Firefox got back to english  )

Hi,

I tried the live CD of PCLinuxOS on these 2 computers. Firefox (version 11.0) is working well...

Hello,

I'd recommend you to copy your windows fonts in /usr/share/fonts/truetype

and then type:

sudo fc-cache -f -v
