Menu-->Places comes and goes from choices

Postby SaintDanBert on Tue Apr 24, 2012 12:57 pm

Running Mint-12 with Chromium, I select Menu --> and look for the Places option to open folders. Sometimes it is visible. Other times it is missing.

I can right-click the panel button and open Edit Menu, but there is no "Places" item to add or configure. The menu does include a Files item that will open $HOME, but I really enjoy the "Places" implementation.

Places, when selected, shows a list of several folders on the right side of the menu "window" (I'm not sure what this space is called with Cinnamon.) Choose a folder
and you get a file manager window into that space.

Can someone (1)explain what is going on with "Places", and (2) tell me how to keep "Places" a visible choice of menu options?

Thanks in advance,

All I can tell you is that it's a known bug... For now, you can restart Cinnamon to make the Places menu reappear. It's not much of a solution, but that's all I know.

Thanks, "veggen" I can live with a known defect knowing that someone will repair it eventually.

With the various Gnome vXXX and MATE and Cinnamon and friends parts at work, do you know which part is responsible for the Places menu item and its inclusion on that menu display?

Cheers,

It's purely a Cinnamon thing. Gnome and Mate have nothing to do with that specific menu.
For reference, you can follow the progress on this bug here: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/585

You can try Mint Classic Menu applet: http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/46, http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=99460
Using that applet you will have your Places always visible.
