Bumblebee problem

Postby ALTN on Fri Apr 27, 2012 8:31 am

Hello,

I've installed linux mint KDE lisa 12, since a while in my ASUS N55Sf. which has a NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M graphic card, and is known by its compatibility issues with Linux.
My graphic card wasn't detected by default, I installed Bumblebee it worked and i was so happy with it. After a while (maybe a week) it became unstable, sometimes my system boots properly and sometimes my screen crashes, which forces me to reboot using nomodeset - remove and reinstall bumblebee - reboot and everything returns to order. However after a shutdown and a reboot later my screen re-crash, and this happened so many times that i started worrying about my hardware.
I don't know but maybe it's due to some updates that i installed using the update manager.

I'm new to Linux, i tried many distributions: openSUSE (didn't work) , Ubunto 12.04-beta (worked but was so buggy and i just didn't like Unity), Fedora (didn't work), and then Linux Mint which i fell in love with, but this bumblebee problem is becoming so frustrating!

If you need any additional infos please let me know - Any help would be very appreciated.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I've just realized that if i shutdown the computer from the shutdown launcher (using the red icon), then i press the power button to open the computer my screen crashes, however if i use the restart button the system boots properly (even if i initially booted using nomodeset and without reinstalling bumblebee). So removing/reinstalling bumblebee doesn't have any effect. The problem is that after a shutdown the system some how conflicts with bumblebee, however booting after a restart loads everything coherently.
Any body has an idea how to fix this?

I'd never heard of Bumblebee.
What version are you using?
From where do you install it?

Hi dagon,

Sorry for the delay, i couldn't reply earlier.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I used the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee to install.

Thank you for the links, i'll report a bug.
