Solved: HP Z1 - Inel chipset graphics - fallback mode

Postby frantek on Fri Apr 27, 2012 4:16 pm

Hi,

today my HP Z1 arrived. Finally I've managed to install Mint 12 along with Windows desipite EFI by chainloading Linux from the Windows boot menu. Now I've noticed that I'm in fallback mode :(

Code: Select all
VESA: Intel® Sandybridge/Ivybridge Graphics

lspci shows:

Code: Select all
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
   Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 3561
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 53
   Memory at fe000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
   Memory at f0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
   I/O ports at f000 [size=64]
   Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled]
   Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit-
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
   Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features
   Kernel modules: i915

Any chance to get out of fallback mode?

TIA

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Yes, I've set "nomodeset" because otherwise the screen stays black ... and I've to boot with out "quite" and "splash". With these two and "nomodeset" the screen stays blank too.
