SOLVED : Audacity - how to make it the default ogg player ?

Postby msd123 on Sat Apr 28, 2012 12:22 pm

I use my laptop for playing ogg files with Audacity.
Ideally, I just want to double click on a file and for it to be loaded into Audacity but instead I have to do "open with.." every time.

If I right click on the file and go to properties/open with, I get a list of apps I can open the file with and Audacity is not one of them. If I select "Other Applications" I get a long list but Audacity isn't there either :( .

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Try this to change it. I'm guessing you'd just set it to audacity.desktop, and then try double clicking one. For some reason Nautilus gets a bit weird about which programs it lets you use for certain files. For me, Audacity is one of the default alternatives for .mp3 files, but nowhere to be seen for flac files. Changing it this way should set the default association regardless of what file manager you're using in the future, though. Naturally, if you don't want to install gksudo, you can always just use something like nano or vim instead of gedit, and regular old sudo will work fine.
