cinnamon applets in lmde 201204

Postby kevmann on Sat Apr 28, 2012 5:00 pm

Hey there people, i need help with cinnamon.
i have just upgraded from linux mint 10 64bit to linux mint debian edition amd64 because i really liked the cinnamon desktop environment after using it on linux mint 12, and also the idea of a rolling release version is better than reinstallation.
Anyway my problem is with installing new applets. in linux mint 12 all i had to do was open the folder usr>share>cinnamon>applets as administrator and paste the unzipped applet folder in there then choose them using the cinnamon settings menu. In lmde, i cant paste them as i have no rights and i cant find the option of opening the folder as admin.
how do i access that folder as admin?

From a terminal, run the following code:
Code: Select all
sudo nautilus

By the way, you can install a lot of Cinnamon applets, extensions and themes in LMDE using Bimsebasse's PPA.
Take a look at this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=208&t=98316

Add the repository listed in this post. Then you can install applets, extensions, themes, etc right from Synaptic.

Copy your applets to ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets and then add them using cinnamon settings.

Sometimes you have to logout and login to see the changes.

Instead of logging in/out use Cinnamon restart. Alt+F2 then type r. Or use Panel > Settings > Troubleshoot > Restart Cinnamon.
