Could you be a bit more explicite please i.e. what is the size of the hard drive, does it contain windows.

i got a 160 gb hd i believe and i am not running windows. i am running in xfce window manager and i just want to know what i would have to do to partition a new space for lmde. considering lmde deletes all partitions if installed and i dont know how to make a new partition for that .. i cant install alongside thats why i am asking this

Firstly LMDE does not delete all partitions. If you have XFCE installed then I assume that you simply told the installer to use the whole disk. I have attached a link to a tutorial which will explain all you need to know,http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/178

I would suggest that you create a swap partition and separate home partition.
