Errors when trying to install gimp

Postby mihai_seba on Tue May 01, 2012 8:05 am

I tried to update to gimp 2.8 using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:otto-kesselgulasch/gimp
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gimp

but after I typed in terminal sudo apt-get install gimp some errors appeared.
So I've tried to reinstall the old GIMP but also appeared the following errors:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gimp : Depends: libgimp2.0 (>= 2.8.0~rc1-8oneiric0~ppa) but 2.6.11-2ubuntu4 is to be installed
Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.24.10) but 2.24.6-0ubuntu5linuxmint1 is to be installed

Did you have any ideas how to install/repair gimp?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

to install that version of Gimp, you'll need to have (at least) the minimum version level (as indicated in your message) of the libraries that gimp uses. ...and, likely, you'll need to recompile or otherwise acquire updated versions of any other program or package that depends on those libraries.
need I say more??

I finally installed it...
sudo ppa-purge ppa:filename (to uninstall the ppa)
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get purge gimp* && sudo apt-get install gimp

Hi, I have an identical error code, but unsure what to do with the filename bit of "sudo ppa-purge ppa:filename ". Any advice?

Thanks.
