Fan always on high

Postby pml on Wed May 02, 2012 3:45 am

First time Minter, long time Linuxer.

I installed Linux Mint 12 yesterday, and it's working great apart from the CPU fan is always on.

The device is an Asus Eee PC 1015PEM and the fan comes on even if it's not that hot, compared to Ubuntu 11.10 I previously had installed. For example the fan will be on almost from a cold when 'sensors' reports 54C.

So far I've tried the following:

- Installed Jupiter, set CPU to Power Saving
- Installed 3.1 kernel
- Installed 3.3 kernel
- Set boot flag pcie_aspm=force in grub

Pastebin from lspci -nnk:

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Also tried:

- acpi_osi=Linux
- pwmconfig (creates /etc/fancontrol file with blank values though?)

Still no dice. 'sensors' now comes up with the fan though, which is a start:

Code: Select all
$ sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1:        +60.0°C  (crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0:       +55.0°C  (crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1:       +57.0°C  (crit = +100.0°C)

eeepc-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1:        3938 RPM
