Wireless connection is slow and unstable

Postby SnuffLord on Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:09 pm

Hello! I am currently running Linux Mint 12 64 bits, on a Clevo W150HRM laptop, and I am facing issues regarding my wireless connection. Not only it is very slow, much slower than it should be (a few kb/s on a broadband connection), but it also disconnects from time to time. Sometimes, when it disconnects, I cannot reconnect again without rebooting the system. On Windows this problem do not shows up.

Any help regarding this situation would be very appreciated. Thank you very much in advance :)

Here follows the output of mintwifi:

Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)

Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the reload(8) utility, e.g. reload smbd

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

It seems the signal is rather weak. I assume that is why your connection is slow.

The point is: this happens even if I am sitting by the router. And that 'weak signal' thing only happens on Linux Mint. If i reboot on M. Windows, it works just fine.

Have you installed the wireless driver from Realtek?
If not, go to http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=21&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false and find the driver.
And this page http://www.chayx.net/2011/06/how-to-install-realtek-rtl8188ce-wifi-drivers-thinkpad-edge-13-on-ubuntu-natty-1104.html may help.
You can also try compat-wireless if the one from Realtek doesn't work.
