Distorted sound with new Kernel

Hello,

First of all I'm a beginner in the linux world, using LM12 32b.
I just updated my installation to kernel 3.0.0-19 and for no special reason the sound quality was affected. The low-end now is really distorted.

I tried the following commands with no effect..

sudo dpkg-reconfigure alsa-base
sudo dpkg-reconfigure alsa-utils
sudo dpkg-reconfigure pulseaudio

Any idea about what could it be?

Ok, this is kind of weird. I tried installing ATI radeon drivers v12.4 by uninstalling the version 12.3, in the end it gave some error related to my kernel and suddenly the sound is fixed with no more distortion. Funny thing is: After uninstalling drivers 12.3 and trying to install 12.4, i have the catalyst control center which says i have version 12.3 installed!
