Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - Apr 18
Recently, the i18n translation files from the Unstable repository often fail to download when running apt-get upgrade. Is there any way of routinely excluding them, please? Many thanks.

Post subject: XORG to be REMOVED
As of now, do not dist-upgrade. The Xorg is transitioning from 7.6 to 7.7 and the old (not yet uploaded) packages are to be removed. Wait until the upload of xorg 7.7 is complete and nothing is to be removed before allowing a dist-upgrade to go through, then stand by for transition issues to present themselves.

yeah aptitude asked this morning if I would like to remove everything xorg. After choosing "F$%& NO!", it skipped that update and carried on.
See above. Choosing 'n' (F%$#& NO!) will result in:
Choosing 'Y' at that point will install other updates and skip the one that nukes your display.

Oh the fun of sid. Just wait a day or so to d-u.
apt-get showing it is a bit smarter than aptitude, the only package that I would need that would be removed is xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.
Or you can put xserver-common on hold and the d-u can proceed safely.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - May 1st
In trying to install Oracle Virtual Box .deb file I am getting this error today:
Error: Cannot install 'libqt4-opengl'
Anyone know what I need to do to get this installed.
Thanks

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - May 1st
Dan,
I usually just install virtualbox from Debian repos.
after that, install extension pack
and add myself to user.
Alternative, you could also install virtualbox using smxi script.
smxi script is very good for many things: install ati/nvidia driver, d.u. virtualbox, liquorix kernel, etc.. try it and see if you like it..
# apt-cache policy virtualbox
virtualbox:
Installed: 4.1.14-dfsg-1
Candidate: 4.1.14-dfsg-1

Wayne,
I thought the one in the repos didn't have USB support so I have always installed it from the Oracle site.
I'll try it and see how it works.
Thanks

Todays big Xorg upgraded broke X for me, nothing removed just X crashing.
Fix: Removed my xorg.conf and installed xserver-xorg-video-ati rebooted and X worked, been using the -radeon driver on this laptop since I installed Debian almost 2 years ago. Just weird that it would break and installing -ati would fix it.
Now inxi -G looks weird, but if it works guess I can't complain, after all its free.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - May 1st
My xorg update went similar to Wayne's. I am running Nvidia so I let it un-install
Upgrade went fine after that with no probs.
I still have two .cil files on hold. I dont need mono for anthing other than Pinta, Tomboy. I am just holding on to see if they eventually upgrade ok. If not, I will just use Gnote instead of Tomboy and do without Pinta.

You could try removing Mono and thus Tomboy and Pinta, then do an update and then try and install Tomboy and see what it puts back. The other option is to open Synaptic and check the properties of the offending packages and it will tell you where the dependency issues are. Sometimes dependency issues can be traced to a redundant lib and all it needs is purging.
Edit: Checking the Debian errors the answer might be as simple as grabbing the latest Mono from Experimental. The offending package is gtk-sharp2-gapi which apparently is no longer needed.
This is all guessing, I do not have mono installed.
Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - May 1st
I did the DU this evening and after a log out and back in everthing is working fine, including Tomboy.
I'm Using ATI card and Gallium driver with nothing pinned.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID) - BREAKAGES - May 1st
Hi Greg
I'll give that a try tomorrow. I had already gotten rid of mono in my LMDE/Gnome partition . I guess I am mostly holding on to it in LMDE/Mate just to see if and when it get upgraded ok. I would think there would be a fix, as several gnome apps wont run without it. Perhaps in experimental as you suggest. I really like Pinta.
