swift linux now lmde based (Info Only)

Postby jjaythomas on Wed May 02, 2012 10:33 pm

for those that like to tinker...

The 'swift linux' distro is now based on LMDE (currently earlier pre up3 version). But rolls with the UPack system (updated to UPack4 with 3.2 kernel no problem :D ) with correct source list.

Based on icewm, rox terminal and pcmanfm. Uses lightdm also. even has Mint welcome mat ('welcome screen') :P (auto-starts when XFCE)
installed mdm (to autologin for comparison) added xfce4 and xfce4-goodies (meta packages),Nothing else for comparison with LMDE-XFCE 201204 ISO (both installed to fresh HD).
Boots fasster (used old tc1100 pen tablet) 67 seconds versus 85 second, CPU usage (@ idle) better 5-6% versus 20+%, memory usage just a little better 7% versus 9% (have 1.5 installed).

Haven't looked what services, auto-starts tweaks included yet  LXDE would be easy also (already uses many LX stuff! Apps includeded (modest amount) more lightweight. (also swift diet edition available)

Only 32 bit avaible (says next ISO will be based on201204 LMint) :D
