Lisa on MSI Wind U123 Audio Problem

Postby mister_risper on Thu May 03, 2012 11:25 am

Hi, I am a newbie. I installed Linux Mint 12 on my MSI Wind U123 Netbook, and I am experiencing a problem with the audio. Audio from the speakers is very low. When I plug headphones in, I hear little or nothiing. Anyone know of a fix to this problem? I tried a fix off an Ubuntu Forum and it messed up the audio more, so I did a reinstall.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi Brian!

Please execute the following code in a terminal:
Code: Select all
alsamixer

Then try to modify the values.
Any changes?

I will try this when I get home tonight. I don't know what will show up in the terminal after I type it, so I am not exactly sure what to modify the values to. Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks,

Brian

Thanks. I will try this out tonight. Hopefully there is little else that will need tweaking on the system.

Hi Esteban,

I tried that command at XXX on a Live-USB Drive on a XXXXXXX. I do not understand how to make any changes with alsamixer. I am assuming that the vertical lines are audio level settings? Headphone is set to 00. I don't see how to change that. Would that be the process, or is it a matter of selecting a soundcard? Also, anyone using the English version who knows, please feel free to answer.

Thanks,

Brian

Well the headphone jack works on my work Dell Vostro 400, even though alsamixer shows 00 for headphones. I am totally confused.

This is just an update that I need help still. What happens is I run alsamixer. The sound for speakers and headphones will both show 100%. When I plug in the headphones, the speaker volume in alsamixer drops to zero, and headphones stay at 100%. No sound. Only if I pull the 1/8" stereo connector 1/3 way out do I hear super loud (as loud as my laptops internal speakers) the audio coming out of my headphones with no ability to adjust volume. I rebooted and retested in XP and my headphone jack and audio in XP work fine on the system. Is anyone a helpful wiz?

Thanks,

Brian

Maybe you can try this one :
Code: Select all
gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

find :
options snd-usb-usx2y index=-2
insert line below :
options snd_hda_intel model=laptop
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 enable=yes

Save and reboot

hi mank,

I followed those instructions, and it did not change anything as far as I can tell. I went ahead and reverted the file back to how it was. Do you think that was the right decision, and do you have any other suggestions?

Hi again. I'm not trying to bump my topic, but I have a hunch, and maybe it would help you find me a solution. I have observed a quirky thing when I play with alsamixer. When I plug in the headphones, the volume displayed for speaker goes from 100 to 0 instantly, but headphones stay at 100 either way. When I also consider that I get super-loud audio when I pull the plug 1/3 of the way out, I wonder whether the system is properly operating the switch built into the headphone jack/speaker circuit, and it may be misdirecting the amplified audio, kind of like mixed up wiring. Thoughts/fixes are appreciated!

My motherboard use RealtekALC888 too, and i didn't need to change anything.
Maybe you can press F6 in alsamixer to change soundcard.

Try gnome-alsamixer (you can installing from synaptic package manager ). gnome-alsamixer have a more preferences

I downloaded two different drivers. I also ran about 380 updates from the update manager, though it seemed to go automatically. I still have no headphone audio. Am I possible missing something on how to install the downloaded drivers? When I click the file that says install, what looks like a text editor opens and says:

#!/bin/sh

The install.sh file is a script (an executable file).
First of all, righ-click it and verify it has executable attributes.
If not, then put a tick at "Allow this file to run as executable" in Properties->Permissions.
Then double-click the file.
