LMDE seems to run much hotter than Lubuntu

I've installed LMDE XFCE and removed almost all XFCE and Gnome packages and installed LXDE. Yet lm_sensors reading is 10 (C) degrees higher than Lubuntu. What can I do?

On the Ubuntu based Linux Mint you could add http://www.jupiterapplet.org/ to manage your power savings to keep the temperature down. I don't know of a Debian alternative to this.

Please share the output of the following command run on the terminal, to give us some understanding of your hardware.

And when you write LMDE is 10℃ hotter than Lubuntu, what exactly is the temperature? I mean, currently my CPU is at 28℃ (without fans ) but going to 38℃ would not be much of a concern I guess.

It's 35-37℃ in LMDE, but trying to lightening I've broken it and am now on Kubuntu giving a last chance to KDE! Surprisingly it's under 30℃ too. These buntus must be doing something right.

My obsession with cool running is that fan noise annoys me much and I want silent operation which is the only thing I miss from my Apple days. How come you've got a reading of 28℃ without fans?! I've got a most minimalist setup as well. The command "inxi -Fc 0" returns "command not found", but I have:

SandyBridge i3-2100 LGA 1155 3MB 3.1GHz
Asus P8H67-M EVO INTEL H67
SSD and BluRay

I've just got a couple of active loudspeakers connected to the S/PDIF out and a wired network drive (mounted by cifs in fstab) for multimedia; nothing wireless.

Damn! I can't have such a beauty in my SilverStone Grandia GD05; not enough space, though you give me some ideas! Yet again I'll end up with a much bigger case.

Edit: It's not a passive cooler, has got a fan. Is it silent in spite of that?

This might be why lubuntu runs cooler, all the buntus have a head start on the rest of Linuxes until they get the 3.4 kernel. http://techhamlet.com/2012/05/ubuntu-12 ... r-heating/

Thank you NightFox. That explanation seems convincing and is good news. So I can go back to LMDE.

I'm now in Lubuntu and for anyone wondering: no, buntus (Lubuntu and Kubuntu) doesn't have the microcode package mentioned elsewhere in this place.

By the way, this will be selfish mumbling but, a LMDE LXDE edition would be great. In fact, I can't see any reason to fight with any other DE!
