Mouse Sensitivity dosn't work

The slider on the mouse preferences for 'sensitivity' does nothing. my usb mouse and trackpad are a bit slow. ..acceleration works good.
I have mint 10 installed on my hp laptop.

Hi, I found that turning acceleration to fast, but sensitivity (counter intuitively) to slow sped it up no end.

lowered sensitivity for my ArcTouch mouse with these mouse settings:
system tools>system settings>mouse and touchpad
"acceleration" slider: set "slow" (slowest)
"sensitivity" slider: set "fast" (fastest...that's right, fastest!)
this is worse than counterintuitive, it must be a programming error
