Java Seems to Hog my Sound

Whenever I run Java in either Chrome or Firefox, nothing else will be able to play sound in either that browser or any other application (i.e. Skype, Sound Settings, etc.). Also, whenever I watch a YouTube video while Java is running, the video will play with no sound, but when I close out of the Java applet, the video will pause and the audio will start from the beginning, and the video will resume once the audio has caught up with it.

I am using the update-sun-jre package from http://www.duinsoft.nl/packages.php?t=en instead of the normal Sun Java due to the fact that it's still stuck on 6u26 instead of 6u32.

It happens with both applets and applications.
