bass doesn't work permanently

Hello, i've just installed linux mint 12 dvd 32-bit, and i have only done 2 things. First thing was to install my video driver,which worked fine,and the second i've installed all the updates from the update manager. All was ok with this, so i have no complaints, but when i play any kind of file (audio,video,song on youtube) my bass doesn't work only "manually". My sound card is Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE, 7.1 surround, and my audio system is Genius SW-HF5.1 6000 Wood. In this picture http://i49.tinypic.com/2z5nh2h.jpg you can see the list with the devices for sound output. Everytime one song or video ends, i have to deselect the good sound output (the last) and select it again for the bass to work. If i don't do that, it's like a reset,and the sound is without any bass. I want to know if there is something to do in this case, somehow the settings with the sound to remain saved.

Right now i saw another thing..if i watch a video youtube shrinked and switch it to full screen the bass dissaprears also. this is really anoying

Hmmm...

For what you said, it is clearly a software issue. Have you tried seeing if it happens as well in Cinnamon and Mate? The sound extension in Gnome Shell might be broken and going crazy on the sound output, try to see if that happens as well in Cinnamon and Mate.

Unfortunately yes, in both cinnamon and mint it's the same. i just introduced the linux mint 12 cd in my father's laptop, only for a test, and there was no problem

Your dad's laptop probably uses a different sound card so there's no use to it, different cards have different issues (or not at all) while running under Linux. I, for example, have an Intel HD Audio card that runs flawlessly. On the other hand, I had an SiS AC'97 last time and it was awful.

Anyway, sorry for the time it took, radubraharu, but here's what I found: you present issues in both Mate, GS and Cinnamon, for what you tell me, so it probably isn't due to a misconfig on the DE's sound applet. Also, you say you are having issues regarding you video card, so I must ask, what brand is you card and what driver is it using?

About the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE... Well it seems that it has always had issues with Ubuntu in versions 8.* through 9.* and worked fine on versions 10.* but lost support on versions 11.* again... Weird.

There are a couple of things in Launchpad about issues with this card in Ubuntu 11.10 (Which is what Mint 12 is based on) but no solutions at all. Also, have in mind that while your sound card is 7.1 Sorround-Capable, your speakers support only 5.1 Sorround (Or at least that's what google says...).

I know this might not be the best solution, but I have no other ideas of how to solve this for you (not very familiar with sound issues and a few hours of googling have gotten me nowhere), but have you tried just using "Stereo" sound? That one is less pron to fail under ALSA/PulseAudio Systems.

I will wait for the Video issues, though; maybe we can find a solution for those.
