Video tearing with Mint 12 Gnome

Postby Konstellation on Sun May 06, 2012 10:24 pm

When playing video files in Mint 12 Lisa (Gnome), I encountered video tearing in generally all video types, but mostly
rmvb & rm files. Both Totem & VLC had the same problem, but more serious with VLC. Already tried this solution found
elsewhere, but didn't work.

gksudo gedit /etc/environment

CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling

My graphics adapter is a built-in Intel HD Graphics. (Sorry, I didn't manage to find the model stated anywhere in Mint 12).

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think you should try and use XvMC options for you intel chipset in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. You can generate an initial example of valid options for your graphical chipset in xorg.conf by running "sudo Xorg -configure" at the console prompt.

Thanks. I'll try it out and post the outcome. I'll watch some movies to be sure.

I typed the command "sudo Xorg -configure" at the terminal and it gave me this error.

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
at http://wiki.x.org
for help.

You have to stop (or kill) your display manager before executing this command :) You must have no X server running during the test.
