(Solved) Friend wants mint - dongle compatability?

Post by veganpete »

Hi all,

I've recommended Mint to a friend and he wants me to upgrade his graphics card and then install mint as a fresh install (removing Microsoft :) )
I just wondered - he uses a USB dongle for internet access, will this run out of the box on Mint or will it have a windows firmware built into the dongle to make it run on windows?

Had a problem with my other friends USB wireless router - it had windows software coded into it and the USB would only work on windows so we just bought a better router to fix the problem.

I suppose this is more of a dongle question than a Mint question but just wanted to know if anyone runs a dongle for internet on Mint for net access?

Thanks ;)

Check the Mint Community Website Hardware Database. There are over 100 wireless adapters and dongles listed with feedback on how they worked in various Mint versions
