Newbie Coding & Patching Question

I apologize in advance if I should have just posted this in Coding & Packaging.

I want to learn the basics of developing for Linux Mint.

I have already learned to develop Android Apps via the Android SDK and The Eclipse IDE.

I also learned to set up Wamp and develop php applications such as wordpress.

I have as a goal to build a LAMP Server.

And I want to learn the basics of setting up a development environment for contributing to Linux Mint.

Can any offer any links to tutorials or share their own experiences?
