NEW KEYBOARD PROB

Postby OldgitTom on Tue May 08, 2012 4:28 am

Linux Mint 12 with dual-boot for Wins XP.

Fine until I plugged in a new keyboard. The new keyboard was not recognized, so I tried the old keyboard. Snag, can now only access Linux Mint. On the dual-boot choice screen, UP/DOWN keys do not work, so I cannot click down to choose Wins XP option. Once inside Linux, the (old) keyboard works OK.

The new keyboard is a Lemel LM-KB-8193. It has some extra keys, bells & whistles, like a scroll wheel. It has a driver CD, but too late I find it is for Wins only.

Any way out? With thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Man with the prob here again.

Reading around, it seems I've upset the Grub/MBR, the keyboard settings bit. So the boot screen with options of Linux M12 or Wins XP appears, but keyboard will not move the hilite to select XP. I get LM by default, which is a relief.

Any simple cure? Thanks.

Sorry, no solution from the man with the problem. I had to put printer into local shop for repair, so took PC box with me on spec. The techie fixed the boot prob in about 30 secs. He also cleaned out insides, which looked like rats had been nesting (yeah, I'm a lazy swine). I swapped the Wins-only Lemel keyboard for a Samsung Pleomax standard k/board. The Samsung is de luxe - very nice key action, & buttons well spaced so you don't keep pressing two for one.
