For the openbox fans:
It works perfectly on the new LMDE. Mint devs thank you and please keep it this way!
Basically nothing needs to be configured if you like the MATE applications. You have yourself a power manager, file manager, network manager, everything.
Just install and switch sessions and you're done!

cool! i was wondering about that, because as of now i still use GNOME2+openbox.
i suppose you just mean openbox works with MATE. i can imagine it doesn't go fairly well with Cinnamon.

No sorry, I guess it was unclear.
What I am doing is launching a standalone openbox session without mate.
I don't know about MATE plus openbox.
The mate apps like power manager and notifications just magically appear though and it's amazing. They don't need to be configured.

If you want some really nice configs & other info related to Openbox sessions, mosey on over to the Crunchbang Forums http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/. It is based in Debian Stable so is pretty much 100% compatible with LMDE. Particularly, Tint2 is by far the most flexible panel application IMO.

Re: LMDE Cinnamon/MATE 201204 works PERFECTLY with openbox
I was just wondering, can I remove mate and cinnamon and all their applications? (except maybe notification and power manager, I can't configure those by myself LOL)
RIght now I have a system like Swift LInux - superior hardware support and configuration thanks to Mint and the lightness of debian and openbox. But I have lots of bloated unnecessary packages.
If I remove everything, what is going to happen if I upgrade to UP5?
