[SOLVED] LMDE hangs at shutdown

Okay here is the thing...I tired to install LMDE but I kept getting this error..."wating for /dev to be fully populated", but after some google searching THE ONLY WAY I COULD GET IT TO WORK WAS PUTTING THIS ON MY KERNEL MODULE LINE IN the grub.cfg file...

linux /vmlinuz-3.2.0-2-amd64 root=UUID=ca23309f-9389-4930-a9c7-cdea661369ef ro splash nolapic acpi=off noapic

I'm guessing this is why my computer hangs at shutdown, but if I take off the nolapic acpi=off noapic options, I can't boot up.

What should I do?

I looked online for soultions...acpi=force causes my computer hang at boot and...I think it was apm=power_off doesn't do anything.

1. Please post your system specifications: Vendor, model ... And the output of "inxi -Fx".
2. What do you mean with "hang"?
3. Do you need all three options?
4. Have you tried "pci=conf1"?

Thank you for responding. I thought for a while no one would comment.

I get the message, "system halted" whenever I shutdown. I can turn the power off, but my computer wont shut down by itself. Yes, I need all three options.

What happens when you put into terminal (maybe with root rights):

Where you put the other three. Without the three.

, I still get the message "system halted". I'm guessing it has to do with a hardware setting that is turned off with the 3 commands I normally enter. I tired entering the kernel parameter, but I still get the same results. I seriously hope there is a fix for this, I have the need to turn my system off remotely sometimes.

I should point out that I had ubuntu 10.04 and debian (stable?) installed on my computer and they both worked fine. I think either maybe something that is in ubuntu and debian is either disabled or not installed by defualt

I SOLVED THE PROBLEM!!!

Okay here is what I did...

Go into sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg

and take off ALL The kernel parameters

It should look something like this

linux /vmlinuz-3.2.0-2-amd64 root=UUID=ca23309f-9389-4930-a9c7-cdea661369ef ro splash

You'll need to restart to see the effect.

Then blacklist the nouveau driver

Go into (sudo) gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-nouveau.conf

and type blacklist nouveau

then uninstall the nouveau driver

apt remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau libdrm-nouveau1a

That solved my problem!

Can anyone explain to me why the nouveau driver was loading when I installed the BINARY driver from nvidia.com? This was for a gforce 550TI
