Touchpad stops responding at random with Linux Mint 12 on Dell Inspiron 9400
No effect of gpointing-device-settings
Have to reboot to get it working again

Muchas gracias por tu gran aporte me ha funcionado muy bienwolverine_tech wrote:Hi,
(I'm assuming that the touchpad options are set properly under 'Mouse Preferences')
Try installing gpointing-devices-settings and tweaking the trackpad settings from there.
On my ThinkPad T61, the touchpad stopped working in Ubuntu 11.10 & LM12 after working flawlessly for a while.
I installed gpointing-devices-settings and upon starting it for the first time, I found that the 'Disable touchpad' option was checked. (No clue why. The settings on Mouse Preferences were normal.) Upon unchecking that box, the trackpad has been working like a champ. Zero problems.
Hope that helps.

I'm pretty sure that someone will be able to help you!
Can you please describe your problem?
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
when I try to run gpointing-device-settings I get this:
Code: Select all
peter@Lappy-LM13 ~ $ gpointing-device-settings
Segmentation fault

With LM12, I found that simply disabling and re-enabling the touchpad using Mouse preferences did the trick. So, perhaps gpointing-device-settings may not be required.
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
I have the same problem on a Lenovo W520. The touchpad randomly stops responding. What's interesting, though, is that I can still tap to click, and the nub still works for navigating. I have a command line alias set to: , which fixes it, but it would be nice if there was a way to stop this from happening.
Code: Select all
'sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse'
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
this worked for me (samsung rv511), many thanks!vibhudost wrote:i had the same problem, but i tried a different thing which worked for me...
I restarted the mouse drivers by typing in terminal
sudo rmmod psmouse
sudo modprobe psmouse
on the other hand, registering for this forum was weird: woolly mammoth is not extinct, but horse/armadillo are?!
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
Off topic, but I've forwarded this to Fred to check and perhaps reconfigure. Thanks for the heads up. Some people might get too excited after registering on the forums and then encountering a horse. Those were thought to be extinct!cor1 wrote:on the other hand, registering for this forum was weird: woolly mammoth is not extinct, but horse/armadillo are?!
Edit: Fred has fixed it. Horses and armadillos are alive again Thanks again for the heads up!

I was more getting excited in anticipation of meeting the woolly mammoth! (they say Russians are gonna clone them soon)xenopeek wrote:cor1 wrote:Edit: Fred has fixed it. Horses and armadillos are alive again Thanks again for the heads up!
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
I had this problem on my Acer Aspire One, while running Ubuntu and followed these instructions. I hope it works one Mint 12......
1. Open a terminal
2. cd /etc/modprobe.d/ (enter)
3. gksudo gedit options.conf (enter)
4. In the text editor that pops up type: options psmouse proto=imps
5. Save the file and close it
6. sudo modprobe -r psmouse (enter)
7. sudo modprobe psmouse (enter)
I hope this works for you. You might have to hit Fn+F7.

Doing that disables edge scrolling and touchpad settings for me.frank75riz wrote:I had this problem on my Acer Aspire One, while running Ubuntu and followed these instructions. I hope it works one Mint 12......

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
lobati...it does the same for me, however, when I hit Fn+F7, the touchpad works......no fancy stuff but I can move the mouse and click the clicks
Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
@ frank75riz: Acer laptops have that key combination indeed - but not others. While it may work well for you, not everybody is helped by this. My HP has an on/off button above the touchpad, which does not seem to help.

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12
I have a weird issue with touchpad on my LM16 and asus notebooks:
after one of many suspend-resume cycles i've got mouse pointer stuck and touchpad could only scroll vertically and click.
Before I could fix it only by reboot or connecting external mouse.
Now installing and launching gpointing-device-settings helped, thanks!
