Chrome web store on Chromium SOLVED

Postby viking777 on Sat May 12, 2012 1:36 pm

Is it just me or is it impossible to use the Chrome web store on Chromium? I have tried hard enough, even upgraded to a completely new release and still I find it impossible to install any extensions into Chromium. I have tried several and none of them work. They show you the permissions well enough and when you agree to those and press 'Add to Chrome' (and it hasn't escaped my attention that it says ' Chrome' not 'Chromium') all that happens is that the blue button changes to 'Checking' and stays there forever (with no net or processor activity).

I thought it might be the web store itself that is at fault, so I installed Chrome - it works fine.

I even tried downloading the extension file in Firefox and then trying to install it into Chromium from my file manager - nothing happens.

I sent 'feedback' but I doubt that will do much good, so I wondered if anyone here had a workround?

I am using Chromium 18.0.1025.151 but I updated to version 21.something and like I said it made no difference.

Just installed Bejewled on 17.0.963.78 (Developer Build 125577 Linux) Debian wheezy/sid (LMDE UP4/KDE) from the web store without problems.

Sorted - My default download directory (as listed in Settings>Under the Hood>Downloads) was incorrect. Gave it the correct address and now all works normally again.
